28BYJ48 4 Phase Motors  is an excellent first stepper motor, ideal for small projects and experimenting with stepper motors. This uni-polar motor features a built-in mounting plate with two mounting holes. It offers 32 steps per revolution (11.25 degrees), with an internal 1/16 reduction gear set (technically 1/16.128, but 1/16 is a close approximation). This results in 516.096 steps per revolution (32 × 16.128). The shaft is flattened, making it easy to attach components using a set-screw. It’s a perfect beginner stepper motor and pairs well with the Motor Shield for Arduino.

The gearing introduces a few important considerations. First, avoid using interleaved or micro-stepping control, as it will significantly slow down rotation. Instead, use single or double stepping. While the torque is relatively high, the motor is slower than un-geared steppers. We achieved a maximum speed of 12 RPM by over-driving it with 9V DC. At 5V, it’s best to keep the speed under 6 RPM.
