Standard '130 size' DC hobby motors are what these are. Compared to other toy motors, they have a greater functioning range, ranging from 1V to 12VDC rather than 3.0-6.0V. Since you are more likely to have 5 or 9V available than a high current 3V setting, this range makes them ideal for controlling with an Adafruit Motor Shield or an Arduino. Most electronics that currently have 130-size motors installed can accommodate them, and two wires that are compatible with breadboards have already been soldered on for quick prototyping.
